Announcing The Cowell Foundation's Major Gift to Accelerate Critical Dementia Research in British Columbia
December 3, 2025
The Cowell Foundation empowers BC scientists with long-term funding to drive breakthroughs in dementia research.
CLEAR is honoured to announce a landmark $500,000 investment from The Cowell Foundation, that will advance groundbreaking biomedical research and help shape the future of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
This significant four-year commitment will directly fund two high-impact research programs:
- The Cowell Foundation Operating Grant ($400,000) – supporting scientific discovery led by established dementia researchers in British Columbia.
- The Cowell Foundation Research Trainee Award ($100,000) – funding the next generation of scientists shaping the future of dementia innovation.
This visionary gift will equip leading researchers to advance earlier diagnostic tools, pursue new therapeutic pathways, and accelerate discoveries that bring meaningful hope to people affected by dementia.
For The Cowell family, this investment reflects a deep commitment to strengthening the health of British Columbians and giving back to the communities that have supported them for decades. Their generosity will aid in building long-term research capacity, attract and retain global scientific talent, and help ensure BC remains at the forefront of brain health innovation.
"Our family knows the profound impact dementia can have on loved ones and caregivers. We chose to support CLEAR Foundation because we believe in the power of research to change that story. It is our hope that this gift helps advance discoveries that protect memories, strengthen families, and bring us closer to a future free from dementia."

With dementia affecting over 770,000 Canadians today, a number projected to nearly double by 2050, this investment comes at a pivotal moment. The Cowell Foundation’s leadership reflects the urgent need for answers and the power of philanthropy to propel discovery.
CLEAR is deeply grateful to The Cowell Foundation for their trust, generosity, and commitment to transforming the future of dementia research.
