Advocating for dementia funding with BC Government

In May 2024, CLEAR Foundation’s leadership team and members of its Board of Directors met in Victoria, BC, for important discussions with both the BC United and BC NDP parties, alongside the Honourable Adrian Dix, Minister of Health. The meetings highlighted the urgent need for increased funding and support for dementia research in the province, with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of memory loss.

Dr. Cheryl Wellington, a leading CLEAR-funded scientist joined the conversations to provide valuable insights into the current state of dementia research and the critical need for innovation in treatment

CLEAR emphasized that without a significant increase in funding for research, the challenges facing individuals with dementia, their families, and healthcare professionals will only grow. The discussions underscored the importance of investing in research to accelerate the development of new treatment options.

With over 700,000 Canadians currently living with some form of memory loss disease, we remain committed to advancing dementia research, as continued discussions with government leaders are an important part of pushing forward conversation and driving the changes necessary to improve the lives of individuals living with dementia in Canada.
